REMA TEC is automating WENKO's new goods distribution center with a systematic solution from Interroll

The innovative automation solution was developed in collaboration with REMA TEC GmbH from Bruchsal, Germany. REMA TEC, a system integrator of material handling solutions, has been worked for well-known companies from a range of different industries for 20 years.

Philip Köllner, managing director at WENKO-WENSELAAR GmbH & Co. KG, explains: "Our traditional family-owned company epitomizes practical benefits and innovation in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry and living areas. Every year, we develop around 500 new products, and now have more than 1,000 registered patents and trademark rights. With the modernization of our goods distribution center, we are concentrating our activities in brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce. This means even better delivery times for our growing customer base."

Increase in efficiency and capacity raises maximum throughput to 4,000 units per hour

With this order, Interroll and REMA TEC are meeting the extremely challenging capacity and efficiency demands that WENKO is making on its new goods distribution center. The automation solution designed for dynamic intermediate storage and order picking of pallets and boxes will enable a throughput of up to 4,000 units per hour to be achieved. The goods are stored and picked on four levels, each of which includes five picking tunnels with highly efficient pick-to-belt material handling technology. This flexible systematic solution, which supports the high innovation cycles in WENKO's product range, uses a large number of Interroll products in seamless combination to ensure a high-performance, reliable application. These include picking lanes for pallets and box flow levels, drum motors throughout almost all of the material handling system, and Interroll Belt Curves. In the 19 sorter end points in Interroll's Crossbelt Sorter, several MSC 50 Magnetic Speed Controllers ensure safe and controlled transportation of the packages from a height of more than 3.5 meters to the ground-level packing stations.

Peter Dippel, owner and CEO of REMA TEC GmbH, states: "As a system integrator of material handling solutions, we count on efficiency and reliability. We have been successfully collaborating with Interroll for years in the interest of our customers. The future-proof automation solution that we developed jointly for WENKO sets standards in cost efficiency and return on investment."

Jörg Mandelatz, managing director of Interroll Fördertechnik GmbH, explains: "We aim to use our solutions to ensure customer satisfaction, with a particular focus on increasing efficiency and productivity. This challenging project is further proof of this. The unique interplay of our products and services—for dynamic storage and sorting, all the way through to intelligent 24 V drive technology—offers WENKO clear added value for achieving its business objectives. Our high quality standards and the scalability of the solution mean that future growth is also taken into consideration."
