Ready for the future

With its new plant in Mosbach, Germany, Interroll is further strengthening its production capacity to meet growing demands.

Interroll is moving fast to increase its production capacity. Benefitting from the move are not only the United States and China, but also Europe. At the center of the expansion strategy is the new plant in Mosbach near Heidelberg, where Interroll has invested more than €45 million ($53 million). The new factory went into operation in June, with Markus Wolf as Managing Director at the helm. The investment is a further boost to the material handling industry.

Production Capacity Doubled

“In Mosbach, we have doubled our previous production area for conveyors in Europe in one swoop,” says Jens Strüwing, Executive Vice President Products & Technology of the Interroll Group. “But that’s not all. Because most of these products were previously manufactured in the nearby Sinsheim plant, we have been able to use the freed-up space there to double the production capacity for our sorters”. The spatial separation of the conveyor and sorter activities enables the plants in Sinsheim and Mosbach to focus on the specific requirements of their respective operations. As a global Center of Excellence for conveyors, Mosbach is also responsible for the Interroll’s modular platform offering around the Modular Conveyor Platform (MCP), the Modular Pallet Conveyor Platform (MPP) and the new Smart Pallet Mover (SPM). The site, which spans over 7.4 hectares (18.3 acres), consists of three buildings. Metal processing and product assembly are housed in two large halls, which are up to 185 meters long, 70 meters wide and 11 meters high (606 x 230 x 36 feet). The third building has an open-office, flexible workplace design with project rooms and communication areas. This structure enables close collaboration across departments. Around 250 people are employed at the new site.

High Energy Efficiency

The new plant is highly flexible with a focus on environmentally friendly operations. State-of-the-art machinery and advanced digital systems ensure a high level of automation. Flexible working-time concepts enable the plant to adapt flexibly and rapidly to changing market conditions. Mosbach has raised the bar for energy efficiency in the Interroll Group. Several architectural measures were implemented to drastically reduce the need for heating and air conditioning.
