The challenge

Rossmann, a leading drugstore chain, aimed to enhance the distribution capacity in its central warehouse while leveraging existing infrastructure. This happened amid several challenges including a wide array of products, strong seasonality and energy efficiency concerns:

Expanding the distribution capacity in the existing plant to support the growing number of products
18,000 products to be distributed to more than 2,200 stores in Germany
Demand for safe and reliable conveyance of hazardous or fragile goods
Requirement to reduce energy usage and boost sustainability

The solution

The Interroll Modular Pallet Platform (MPP), capable of handling loads up to 1,500 kilograms, was seamlessly integrated into Rossmann’s material-flow system to run in perfect harmony with the Interroll Modular Conveyor Platform (MCP). The MPP, with a tailored combination of pallet conveyor modules and specialized conveyors such as transfers, lifts, and turntables, proved to be the optimal and future-proof solution for arriving pallets and managing the order picking area in Rossmann’s central warehouse. In addition, the utilization of 48-volt RollerDrive technology to power the MPP enables zero-pressure accumulation, ensuring the safe conveyance of even hazardous or fragile goods.

Rossmann experienced significant improvements in its operations while substantially reducing total operating costs:

Nine hundred meters of Interroll MPP, conveying more than 30,000 boxes daily
Increased output by 3,000 packages per day, representing a 10 percent boost
