Application 067: Air cargo, X-ray inspection, Los Angeles International Airport LAX, USA

Interroll supplied a leading global manufacturer of air cargo screening systems with conveyor systems for use at Los Angeles International Airport LAX.

The challenge lay in the conception, design, manufacture and supply of a large number of specialty conveyors to carry cargo weighing up to three tons as smoothly as possible through an X-ray scanner. The cargo is transported on Euro pallets, CHEP pallets or GMA pallets and sometimes in individual wooden packaging. In addition, the first units had to be installed at the airport with the airline just four weeks after receipt of the order.

The solution of the Interroll engineers satisfied the customer not only by on-time completion but by surpassing the expectations of the user. And at a price that was less than the budget of the customer.

The conveyor solution is a chain-driven heavy duty roller conveyor with a steel frame giving rise to a sound pressure level of less than 64 dB(A) while the cargo is conveyed very smoothly through the scanner system in order to allow precise, ultra-sharp X-ray images to be recorded. Thanks to this excellent solution, operators can still perform their work accurately and efficiently while the overall security of airline passengers has been increased.

Thanks to its worldwide network, Interroll expertise from throughout the company was made available to the customer and the airline in the form of the installed solution - a solution that has quickly proven that the smooth and secure transport of heavy cargo can now be ensured throughout the world.
