LARGEST SORTER ORDER SO FAR FOR INTERROLL: CROSSBELT SORTERS WILL SOON ALSO BE SORTING FINNISH MAIL
Sant'Antonino, 22 August 2008. The Interroll Group, the world's leading supplier of key products for distribution logistics, conveyor technology and automation continues to make good progress with the worldwide patented sorter technology. Interroll Crossbelt Sorters will now also be put into operation in the next few years at the Finnish postal service. Mixed mail will be transported for the first time in the mail sector. The system integrator Siemens Mobility Division was commissioned by the Finnish postal service Itella with the implementation of the project.
With the implementation of the Siemens REMA (Reengineering Mail Processing) project, the renowned Interroll Crossbelt Sorter is already successfully in use at Swiss Post. Together
with Siemens and Swiss Post, Interroll presented the sorting technology at a trade press conference in the world's most modern mail distribution centre in
Zurich-Mülligen in November last year.
The Finnish postal service Itella now also wants to integrate the Crossbelt Sorters of Interroll. The mail distribution centres of Helsinki, Kuopio, Oulu and Tampere are to be
equipped with new sorting technology for sorting newspaper, magazine and letter bundles, flats and parcels in the "Parcel and Bundle Sorter System (PBSS)", i.e.
approximately 2.4 kilometres of Interroll Crossbelt Sorter technology, for which the complete feed system consisting of belt conveyors, belt curves and merges is also supplied by
Interroll. This is the largest order of its type so far for Interroll, with an order value in the area of a 2-digit million figure (CHF).
New on the market
The parcel and bundle sorter systems (PBSS) and the tray handling systems (THS) for letters and flats are to be installed in each mail distribution centre in Finland. It is the
first time in this sector that these technologies for handling and sorting different types of mail are being combined. The sorter subsystems are scheduled to come into operation
between October 2009 and February 2011.
Tangible customer benefits
Crossbelt sorters from Interroll are characterised in particular by quick and easy integration into complete systems. Depending on requirements, the sorters, whose modules are
precisely pre-assembled in the factory in Sinsheim, near Heidelberg in Germany, can be installed on site with linear, straight routing ("over-under", vertical sorter) or with
curved tracks which also handle inclines and declines (horizontal sorter). With this sorter technology, distribution centres also benefit from concrete advantages: cost-effective
operation already with low throughput levels of 2000 items per hour, fast ROI (approx. 2 years), high availability, a space- and energy-saving concept, minimal maintenance thanks
to the fail-safe mechanical design, maximum user friendliness and and exemplary low-noise operation.
As references show, the Crossbelt Sorter from Interroll has gained significant market shares worldwide in the last few years, particularly in the sectors courier/express/mail,
mail order or textile, multi-media and retail companies. And the positive trend continues: a project is being implemented at Royal Mail, the national postal service of the United
Kingdom, which also integrates Interroll Crossbelt Sorters, Interroll Belt Conveyors and Belt Curves as key products in the distribution system.
