Flow Storage Solutions – Interroll Presents New Key Products for Internal Logistics at Modex, Atlanta

Interroll presents new key products for even more efficient warehousing operation at Modex in Atlanta/Georgia from 6th to 9th February 2012. The solutions for dynamic storage of fast-moving goods on pallets and in boxes, cartons and totes include new roller modules, safety separators, magnetic speed controllers and roller tracks.


The new generation of flow storage modules makes distribution centers even more productive, safer and more flexible. The new key interfaces for dynamic storage systems using FIFO or LIFO technology help cut expensive time and costs of onsite installation and ensure long, smooth and maximum available operation. The space and energy saving Interroll flow storage modules for pallet and tote handling are compatible with all worldwide used racking systems and can also be used at high throughput volumes for pallets and totes of different makes, sizes and weights.

Red Bull   -   Optimize Limited Space   -   Handle Pallets Safely in Cold Storage
"Red Bull, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart and many other major corporations are among our worldwide references", says Tim McGill, President of Interroll's North & South American operations. "Positive experience of using our dynamic storage solution installed in 2009 motivated Red Bull in Thailand to reorder pallet flow equipment for a new distribution center last year." The new Red Bull DC provides 12,670 pallet positions for FIFO (first in, first out) pallet flow storage and LIFO (last in, first out) cart pushback storage. In southern Germany, Procter & Gamble is retrofitting a distribution center for household goods replacing drive-in racking with FIFO dynamic storage modules from Interroll to accelerate the flow of goods and increase the stock levels. The retrofit helps maximize the utilization of limited space. "Our solutions are also designed to ensure reliable operation in cold storage applications", Tim McGill adds. " Fair Market, Inc., established US leader in the wholesale discount food market, required two separate rack installations, one for a dry storage area with ambient temperature and another for a freezer of -10F. From its centrally located corporate headquarters and main warehouse in Wentzville, MO, Fair Market, Inc. can efficiently ship products anywhere in the United States."

Tried and Tested: New Flow Storage Modules for Safe, Energy-friendly Pallet handling
The flow storage modules developed and constructed by Interroll are subject to strict tests in order to ensure a maximum performance and life-cycle. Interroll tests its solutions at the Group's various test centers located in North America, Europe and Asia. By request, test results are made available on video.

The loading, intermediate and unloading modules are designed flexible depending on the operation type and type of lift truck:
  • Loading modules with full-width rollers for AS/RS systems; three-fold loading module for forklift trucks without tilting mast or forks; loading modules with full-width rollers for lift trucks with tilting masts and forks
  • Intermediate modules: Store two pallets each; a speed controller per pallet position ensures the safe, channel-centered travelling of the pallets at the desired speed.
  • Unloading modules with full-width rollers for forklift trucks with tilting masts or forks; three-fold unloading modules for forklift trucks without tilting mast or forks; unloading modules for the pallet extraction with pallet truck

Increased User-Friendliness: New Safety Separators for Normal to Heavy-Weight Pallets

FIFO pallet flow storage becomes even more user-friendly using the new Interroll PF 1000 Safety Separator. Thanks to the new separator, pallets of different sizes and weight can be stored in the same flow channel. The safety separator separates the first pallet at the front of the unloading side from the further stored pallets and their accumulation pressure. This way, the pallets can be unloaded safely and without accumulation pressure.

When the first pallet has been extracted from the unloading site, the next pallet will be released after a delay of 20 seconds. This way, the driver has enough time to extract the pallets safely before the next pallet will move in. Because of the pedal-free system there are no more limitations for the driver anymore with regards to the pallet lift - this is especially important if the driver extracts from very high shelve areas with limited sight.

For maximum flexibility in the pallet unloading aisle, Interroll has developed the new safety separator in two designs: As standard version for up to 12 ton pallet weight and a resulting accumulation pressure as well as a version for especially long flow channels with an accumulation pressure of the stored pallets of up to 20 tons.

Higher Throughputs: New Speed Controller without Wear and Tear
The new speed controller by Interroll works without wear because of its unique construction and is therefore especially appropriate for a high throughputs: Up to 100 pallets/hour compared to 5-30 pallets/hour with comparable speed controllers. This key element prevents an uncontrolled pallet flow. In case of damage to the speed controller it will automatically lock down to stop the pallet.
    
The travel speed of pallets in the gravity lanes is an important safety factor. Therefore the Interroll speed controller limits the speed independently from the weight of the pallets (50lb to 3000lb in the same lane) to less than 50 ft/min. The controlled speed avoids impact loads and the load on the pallet stays in a stable position. This means absolute reliability and high life expectancy:

  • No overheating of the speed controller even at high throughputs, e.g. in dispatch lanes.
  • Guaranteed hassle-free operation and superior operational life
  • Constant travel speed for pallets weighing between 50lb to 3000lb

The new speed controller makes the pallet storage more flexible and fully exploits the investment because pallets of different sizes and weights can be stored in the same flow channel. Pallets from 125lb to 300lb; half-pallets (24") and Euro-pallets (48").

Last in first out: Optimized Solution for Handling Standard and Non-Standard Pallets
Where there is only one aisle for loading and unloading of pallets because of spatial reasons, the optimized Interroll Frame Pushback PF 2440 ensures safe LIFO handling of containers, cages, and non-standard pallets for a quick to medium throughput.

Compared to conventional pallet storage, Interroll Frame Pushback needs 30% less space. Compared to drive-in racking, the new solution ensures a 25% faster unloading.

All pallet types and pallets in different conditions - even wet or damaged pallets - can be stored without any problem thanks to the special horizontal frame: Euro-pallets, CHEP pallets, slave pallets, cages, etc from 225lb to 3000lb.
